What is the right balance to being human? The man is “timeless” in his quest for happiness. It's raining money and he's on top of the world. But he is spinning in circles. Living to work comes at a high price. The hourglass in his pocket symbolizes how we choose our time on this planet. The left side of the mans face shows sadness, exhaustion and a feeling of being lost. Since the beginning, money and need for power has ruled over us. The tattered umbrella represents the symbol of transcendence from the old to the new. We can all learn from our mistakes instead of repeating them over and over again and again. The pig of greed symbolizes capitalism and those at the top controlling those underneath. The shackles bind him to the modern world. Now with computers and smart phones, we don't know how to unplug. Many of us walk around as puppets, attached to their devices forgetting how to connect to the "real" world.

This bright side is the right side of the painting represents hope. The mans eye looks up towards the butterfly and a smile starts to appear. This little symbol of the butterfly represents metamorphosis and change, this side also represents nature and the beauty of life. Moreover, the man's hand is the Hopi hand, representing healing, protection, and the universe. Triangles flowing down from the hand symbolize mind, body, and spirit—a reminder that a balanced life considers all three equally important. If we are too out of balance with work, we don't have time to appreciate life and all of its gifts. The key to life is about finding that happiness and having the time to enjoy life's mysteries. Not going too far in either direction and finding that perfect balance.
